This is Florida State’s Walter Tschinke. He uses paraffin wax, orthodontic plaster or molten metal to make casts of ant colonies, in an attempt to reveal their intricate structure and figure out how the ants know how to build such an elaborate system. 
Ants are just one of the 8 amazing architects of the animal kingdom that we’re profiling today. 

All the paraffin in the world will not make up for those pleated pants, sir.
